Prezi is, in essence, an evolution of the PowerPoint presentations that have become such a large part of every industry. From reports in schools to informative talks on business models, PowerPoint presentations have been used everywhere. And while the saying goes if it isn’t broke don’t fix it, Prezi have definitely made an innovative change to presentations for the better.
Prezi works differently than PowerPoint, in that instead of each slide being its own page, all of the information that you would want to showcase is on one page. From this, instead of transitioning from slide to slide, Prezi works so that you set an order that you want to zoom into the information set on the page. It will then zoom into the information posted as if it were transitioning to the next slide. In terms of basic features, Prezi is very much PowerPoint. You write information in one text box or in bullet points, place images, bold important information, set titles, etc. Prezi is special in that when you set something, it doesn’t have to be linear. It doesn’t have to be right side up even. The transitions can rotate as you see fit. One image that was part of one slide can be in the next as well. Prezi is much more open, and gives the user much more of a creative license when creating their presentation storyboard.
Prezi’s goal is to get certain information across to the viewers in a quick and concise manner. Where Prezi excels however is in its presentation. All of the information that you want to present is already there, you are just leading the viewers towards it. Another way to think of Prezi is like a science fair presentation board. You have all of your information presented, but you will be leading the viewers around the board, directing them to important parts.
Prezi is free but with that comes some limitations. However, if you are part of an organization that uses presentations, often, Prezi is more than worth it.
